My net art work 'Status 2.0' was selected for the 2007 Electrofringe online exhibition. The work is a comment on 'broadcast yourself' culture and the fervour with which people are embracing self-publishing online. The work specifically explores our fascination with the minutiae of people's lives via ‘status updates’ and ‘thumbcasts’ in social networking spaces.
It is also a comment on the re-purposing of personal data in what cultural commentators are beginning to call the 'Age of Extreme Transparency' – an era born through individuals choosing to make intimate information about themselves available through blogs and online social networks. |
