BOAT-PEOPLE.ORG are a group of artists and activists who joined forces to challenge the fear rhetoric manufactured by the Howard Government to justify the inhumane treatment of asylum seekers.

Our first action involved projecting an image of a tall ship with the words 'BOAT PEOPLE' underneath it on to the Sydney Opera House.

Our most recent work, 'Muffled Protest' presents traces of a muffled protest which spread from Cockatoo Island around Australia. As both sides of politics sought to profit by invoking fear of asylum seekers during the 2010 election campaign, boat-people.org invited friends and strangers across the nation to appear in public spaces in a collective display of dismay. The work was developed during the 2010 Cockatoo Island Artist Residency Program.
